Delving into the detail

Architectural projects are a blend of art and science. At the Building Regulations stage, the broad creative concept should have been settled and planning permission secured (if it’s needed). Now, it’s all about the technical specifications that make a building scheme work in the real world. The objective here is to ensure the final design will be safe, secure, accessible and constructed in accordance with government building standards.

This is the most in-depth set of architectural drawings in the design process. Whether your project is a new build or an extension, at home or in a commercial setting, there’s a long list of things to tick off. These include setting out dimensions, establishing door and window positions, preparing build-up plans for walls, floors and roofs, and calculating U-values for insulation requirements. And there’s the tricky business of ensuring all the elements of your build – a complex interplay of three-dimensional spaces and structures – slot together.

Thanks to our years of experience across a wide assortment of architectural projects – and our command of industry-leading software such as AutoCAD and Revit –  we can tame this complexity. You can expect a quality set of drawings that meet Building Regulations. But they also provide a useful reference guide from which contractors can tender quotations – and a master plan to instruct builders throughout the construction process.

  • While not all architectural projects require Planning Permission, Building Regulations plans are required for most major building works. Your local authority is obliged to check that your scheme meets national standards before the building works start. We can advise on what is required by law.

  • [Something here to say that you will send the drawings to the local Building Control authority and handle the paperwork?]

  • [Something non-committal about the price (depends on the size and scale of the project – get in touch for a free consultation and quote?). And maybe a rough guide to the price of submitting drawings to Building Control authorities?]

  • Having Building Regulations drawings is generally part of the wider process of your project – if you need planning permission, this will impact the result of the drawings. When it comes to completing your drawings, we tackle each job with your individual needs in mind, so it really depends on the complexity and where you are in the process. Get in touch and we’ll give you an idea of the overall plan and schedule in advance.

  • In most cases, yes. Their assessments and calculations on safety and standards compliance will be fed into your Building Regs drawings. [They can appoint their own if they have one in mind, or you can recommend? Or even handle it on their behalf so it’s all done seamlessly without the client having to deal with extra admin?]
